1. Roll Rudiments

A. Single stroke roll

The single stroke roll is probably the most used drum rudiment of all and is done without much thought
Used by most drummers the first time to play the drums.

Style of play:

  • right - left - right - left
  • left - right - left - right

B. Single stroke four

The single stroke Four is a triplet order that you can practice and play as follows. In contrast to the simple single stroke roll, here you take a 1/4 note break after the 4th beat.

Style of play:

  • right - left - right - left
  • left - right - left - right

C. Single stroke seven (Video follows)

The single stroke Seven is - like the Single Stroke Four - a triplet drum rudiment, but with 3 additional strokes.

D. Multiple bounce roll (Video follows)

The multiple bounce roll is what most would describe as a drum roll. Basically, you let the tip of the drum stick "bounce" as often as possible (multiple bounce) on the head or drum pad. If this works well with one hand, you practice the other hand and then play both hands alternately so that a closed vortex is created.
