16 tactics that will increase your website traffic

Traditional aggressive marketing tactics have started to decline. Brands are now publishing content and are going to build through their own digital media properties.

No one can deny the effectiveness of content marketing.

According to Demand Metric, content marketing costs 62% less and winsthree times as many interested parties than traditional marketing.

Although, that's nothing new. Brands have used stories to attract and retain customers for centuries.

Custom publishing was already used for cave paintings around 4200 BC. Discovered.

Right now, the threshold for brands to start publishing is low.

All you have to do is install WordPress and set up social media accounts to get started.

But starting a blog and posting content isn't going to attract your target audience on its own.

Just look at the enormous number of blog posts that are published every day.

Here is a snapshot from Worldometers at the time I published this post.

Jayson DeMers, founder of Audience Bloom, puts it aptly.

The real value of content marketing lies in its dissemination.

You can't just post and pray that your target audience will visit your website.

You need to invite the people who will like the content on your website.

Well, where do you find these people?

You can find them in niche communities on social media platforms and forums.

Let's go over 16 advertising strategies across different platforms and the best ways to drive website traffic from them.

1. Reuse your post in an infographic or a short video post

Visual content accounts for up to 93% of the content of all human communication.

You can target the visual learning ability of your target audience by posting infographics and short videos.

Let's look at both.

1. Infographics - They are widespread among B2B marketers. Their use has seen a huge increase this year - 11% (from 51% last year to 62%).

They make great link bait too.

Example - Buffer used an infographic from Post Rocket in their article on Facebook's organic reach. And they have contextually linked to Post Rocket within the post.

Reusing your post in an infographic is easy.

  • Write down the key points of your article. Then use a drag and drop tool like Infogram or Piktochart.
  • Make sure the infographic fits the style of your brand and blog design.
  • If you're ready to spend around $ 500, you can hire a Dribbble designer.
  • Next comes the important part, the diffusion. You can register your infographic in one of the following infographic directories.

Here are 100+ other infographic directory websites.

Be careful though.

Don't post your infographic on too many low-quality websites.

Blogging Wizard's Adam Connell took an interesting approach. He noticed that an expert summary post on his blog was well received.

Realizing the popularity of his post, Adam reached out to TweakYourBiz to have the post republished.

What is amazing is that he has managed to enter into a cooperation with 24Slides for the (free) reuse of his contribution as an infographic.

The reused version had 22,000 visitors and was shared 2000+ times.

There are no rules in infographic marketing.

2. Videos - 1 billion internet users watch online videos every day.

Mobile device users LOVE videos.

Check out the statistics on mobile devices published by YouTube (the second largest search engine in the world).

You can take advantage of this video revolution by reusing your posts in videos and adding a call-to-action at the end of your video so that visitors come back to your website.

Check out Entrepreneur.com.

They publish weekly video summaries of their contributors.

These are mostly short video interviews with the authors of your top contributions.

Here is a 1-minute video recap from Entrepreneur that takes a look at 3 of the week's posts. The video received 3000+ views.

You can also distribute this video on other video platforms such as Vimeo and Viddler.

2. Send the article to your email list

Email is a personal medium. People who give you their email address have built a relationship.

It's no wonder that to acquire new customers:

Emails are 40 times more effective than Facebook and Twitter combined.

At NeilPatel.com, my website traffic from emails is consistent and user engagement is good.

Email subscribers are the first to engage with your content and trigger social media sharing.

So if you're not already doing it, then start now with building your email list.

Like Entrepreneur Magazine, you can send a weekly newsletter to your list.

Or send them an update for every new post (like I do).

Some people don't want to leave their email unread. That's why they notice content in their inbox.

Zenhabits' Leo Babauta fully understands his target audience. Since his subscribers love to read email, he sends them the entire blog post in the body of each email.

You can also reuse your popular blog posts for an email course.

Check out the results Buffer achieved by running an email drip campaign.

They received 18,185 registrations and an open rate of almost 60%.

3. Receive 2,000+ page views from SlideShare

SlideShare is the largest presentation creation website and a platform that is underutilized by marketers.

It is accessed monthly by 50+ million unique visitors.

Also:

The SlideShare team, for its part, promotes good presentations. They do this on their social media accounts and on their homepage.

Here are the steps to get you started with SlideShare.

Step 1 - Create slides on which you summarize the key points of your blog post. Work extra hard on the design.

step 2 - SEO rule application

Use keywords strategically in the title and description. Using long-tail keywords on slides works particularly well (even on Google).

step 3 - Promote the SlideShare presentation on your social media accounts. And also integrate them into your blog post.

Step 4 (optional) - If it's a presentation relevant to your work experience, you can also add it to your LinkedIn profile summary.

They appear as clickable links on your profile.

Follow the SlideShare guidelines to increase your chances of getting noticed.

Getting to the Slideshare homepage can bring you 2,000+ page views.

Here is the type of content that works especially well on SlideShare.

Read Gregory Ciotti's detailed case studies of how he got his slides 10,000+ hits.

4. Come to BuzzFeed's first page

BuzzFeed has millions of page views a month.

And 50% of website traffic comes from the 18-34 age group.

Getting published on BuzzFeed can get you a massive amount of exposure and do a good job of your search rankings (it's a DA 94 website).

And it's easier than you think. BuzzFeed has a community area where stories from the masses of users are published.

Best of all, BuzzFeed supports the community's good stories. It advertises the stories on social media and puts them on their homepage.

Just make sure you tick the "Suggest For Community Feature" before posting your post. You can propose 1 post per day.

But can this BuzzFeed Community showcase help launch your brand?

And whether.

Companies like HarperCollins use it as part of their marketing strategy.

The Heritage Foundation also used it once to criticize Obamacare.

The most stunning example is Matthew Barby.

He generated 10,000 page views and some subscribers to his blog with his story on the front page of BuzzFeed.

His contribution was picked up from the community area and additionally promoted by BuzzFeed.

First on the community front page.

Then on the front page of the categories.

And finally on the BuzzFeed homepage.

Matthew's BuzzFeed article received 146,000 views.

Don't expect to get to the BuzzFeed homepage just by posting a high quality story.

Here are tips from Matthew Barby to increase your chances.

1. Don't make it too promotional.

2. If your post passes the moderation stage, try to increase the traffic of your post that comes from social media (and thus your BuzzFeed Social Lift Score).

Matthew used paid advertising on Reddit, Stumbleupon, Facebook, and Twitter to increase his social lift.

3. You treat it like a blog post. So get in touch with opinion leaders and BuzzFeed users and tell them about your contribution. This increases the activity on your post.

Here is the contact email Matthew used.

  • Basic SEO rule application: Do not link irrelevant or use keyword-rich reference texts.
  • Do not use copyrighted images.
  • Lists are most successful on BuzzFeed.

5. Receive thousands of page views through Reddit

Reddit is a gigantic online forum that has an impressive Alexa Rank: 30.

It's a gold mine for directing traffic to your website, but you have to be careful.

Reddit users hate spammers ...

They don't seem to have much use for marketers in general.

Stratupbros puts it aptly.

Confused If Reddit Is Right For You?

Perhaps these results will give you a confidence boost.

Travis received 625 registrations for its brand new product in 9 days. It also got 1,104 clicks from 3 Reddit posts.

Mateen did a Redit AMA (Ask Me Anything) that resulted in 2,000 page views on his blog.

In addition, his average daily blog traffic increased fivefold (from 20-40 visitors before the AMA to 120-150 visitors afterwards).

Inspired to spread your post on Reddit?

Well.

If this is your first time using Reddit, I would recommend going through my in-depth Reddit Marketing Guide.

Also, here are a few expert tips to help you maximize your Reddit marketing success.

You need a nice Reddit profile before you post any content. Here are a few things you can do to create a suitable one.

Before you post, take a look at what content has been well received in your target sub-Reddits.

Here are a few species that, according to Spencer Haws, are popular.

John Smith advises you not to devote yourself to the bigger sub-Reddits. Many marketers are already targeting this.

The titles of your Reddit posts should be informative and long (300 characters is the maximum limit). Including numbers in the title also helps.

Here are some examples.

Don't post at peak times, as this is the time when the older posts will take the top positions.

Use this subreddit traffic analysis tool to make sure you are on the right time post.

According to Spencer, an upvote will usually get you 2-5 visitors.

Here's the skeleton of a Reddit post that can get you 10,000 page views.

Here is a list of 750 popular sub-reddits, broken down by industry (courtesy of Siege Media).

Post your content organically (not all at once) in relevant sub-reddits.

And get a few first upvotes from your friends on social networks. Or you could buy upvotes on Fiverr (be careful when choosing your upvote provider).

Greg Hopkins got 80,000 views of a new video he posted on YouTube when he bought upvotes on Fiverr. He also received 400 email optins.

Here is Greg's Reddit post.

If your Reddit post gets a bunch of upvotes (more than 10 or so), the link becomes a do-follow. And you can also control the reference text of the link.

Spencer Haws reached a PA48 backlink from Reddit. He describes his approach.

Do you want to take a shortcut and Blackhatbecome? Then buy old Reddit accounts with good karma with this simple Google search.

Ryan Stewart bought two established Reddit accounts. Now he's getting good referred traffic every time he posts on Reddit.

6. Be on Quora, have fun and build your target audience

It is very likely that you have already found an Oliver Emberton article on your Facebook or Twitter feed.

Oliver's Favorite Article, Life Is A Game, was shared an incredible 644,000 times on social media.

One of the main reasons for its success is the originality of the presentation of its ideas. He also uses custom images like this one.

But did you know that until September 11th, 2012:

Oliver was a nobody.

His road to fame was this Quora answer.

How useful can a viral response with 15,300 upvotes on Quora be?

Well, she can get you a book deal.

All within 5 days.

Then he wrote that most viewed response in Quora history. He used custom images to explain the procrastination.

Oliver started his blog shortly afterwards. But his massive following on Quora was still his main audience (in the early days of blogging).

Here are Oliver's blogging strategies that got him 4 million views in the first year.

Check out Oliver's interview where he tells how he got 4.93 million Quora views.

7. LinkedIn - An important dissemination platform for B2B marketers

94% of B2B marketers distribute content on LinkedIn.

But where do you start?

An effective way to grow your traffic through this platform is to take advantage of the LinkedIn publishing platform.

Matthew Woodward reused his popular blog post for a 1000 word LinkedIn post.

But before Matthew published, he made sure a landing page and prospect magnet was ready to attract new subscribers.

The article went well on LinkedIn.

The outstanding aspect is the gigantic conversion rate of 76.15%.

What are the strategies that can help you achieve similar success?

Here are some tips from LinkedIn publishing expert, Brain Lang.

Ready to start with LinkedIn Publishing?

Then follow these steps from HubSpot.

You can also look for a dedicated LinkedIn group with no spam.

Start conversations to share your content. I regularly start conversations on many LinkedIn groups.

If you can invest more time, start your own LinkedIn group with tips from the Content Marketing Institute.

8. Offer your contribution as a podcast to reach a new target group

The New York Times makes it clear that internet-connected cars are the main driver behind the podcast renaissance.

This renaissance has resulted in 26% of marketers looking to increase their podcasting activities.

But only 10% use podcasts at the moment. So the opportunity is very favorable.

A huge advantage of podcasts is that your consumers will often become regular listeners.

Social Media Examiner offers both audio and text versions of at least one blog post each week.

The very successful blogger Brian Clark has also started a podcast on his Rainmaker platform. The podcasts offer online marketers a lot of added value.

Do you feel inspired to start a podcast?

You can start reusing your most successful blog posts.

Dead easy.

Your readers can now hear your blog post on the go.

9. Get your post published on Huffington Post

Don't be frightened right away.

Getting published on the world's biggest blog is easier than you think.

You know people were posted on Huff Po by addressing Arianna Huffington directly.

  • The chances of your post being republished are greater if it has already gained traction on social media.

10. Attract visual readers to Pinterest

Posting a single graphic can bring you thousands of dedicated Pinterest visitors.

According to Shareholic, Pinterest is the second most popular social media traffic engine website.

If you have a lifestyle brand (fashion, interior design, and handicrafts), Pinterest is a gold mine.

Here are tips from Boost Blog Traffic on how to build your fans on Pinterest.

To increase your chances of success, let's follow up on more specific tips.

If a lot of Pins are shared from your website, then they will be advertised in the main Pinterest feed.

  • Mobile traffic on Pinterest is high. So optimize images for both mobile and desktop devices.

  • Add a “Pin it” button on your website to make sharing possible.

Pro tip: Vertical images can drive a lot of traffic to your blog posts.

Save space by adding a 1 pixel (length and width) image after your main image in your post.

For more tips, check out this video tutorial from Buffer.

  • Build your Pinterest board like social media blogger Kim Garst. She regularly pins her blog posts and gets great user loyalty.

  • You can also introduce your blog writers like The Next Web.

Wish Pond explains how introducing your writers improves relationships with your audience.

11. Increase social user loyalty through Twitter

Twitter is old-fashioned in marketing, but it's still very effective (considering its 100 million daily active users).

I've written extensively before about Twitter retention and marketing strategies.

Here is an overview.

  • Shorter tweets with fewer than 110 characters ensure 17% higher user loyalty.
  • To improve the reach of your tweets, use 1 or 2 hashtags.

  • Send 1 to 4 tweets a day.

  • Tweets with links get 86% more clicks.

  • If you're a fan of automation, you might want to check out this video tutorial, which is about increasing your Twitter followers by 1,048 and your referred traffic by 159%.

12. Invite Facebook's 968 million daily active users to your website

Viral websites like BuzzFeed, Distractify and ViralNova get the lion's share of their traffic through Facebook.

You can't ignore Facebook. 25% of all traffic on websites comes from there.

I know the decrease in organic reach of Facebook Pages is uncomfortable for marketers. But you can fight it with innovative strategies.

Or invest in Facebook ads to give your blog posts an initial boost. They're extremely effective considering that BuzzFeed spends millions on advertising on Facebook.

Jon Loomer promotes his posts by creating a doppelganger audience and targeting visitors to his website for the past 30 days. He does that for every blog post with Facebook's Power Editor.

Another great tip from John is to exclude the people who have already seen the post because of your advertisement (there is no need to show them your post again).
