Tuna Salad - Easy and Healthy Recipe

At the thought of a fresh and crisp one Tuna salad Your mouth will water right away.

Hardly any other salad is as quick and easy to make and at the same time as versatile as a delicious tuna salad.

Tuna salad used to consist mainly of tuna and lots of mayonnaise. With luck, a few more onions and tomatoes came in and the salad was ready. Such a tuna salad was of course not really healthy due to the high fat content.

Today I'm going to show you a simple recipe for a completely different, much healthier tuna salad.

One that consists mainly of tuna and lots of fresh vegetables and is therefore much lighter, lower in calories and more digestible.

What ingredients do you need for a tuna salad?

The tuna:

2 cans of tuna. In their own juice, each 150g drained weight.

For the vegetables:

  • 1 red onion
  • 1 spring onion
  • ½ green pepper
  • ½ yellow pepper
  • ⅓ cucumber
  • 1 stick of celery
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs
  • 1 clove of garlic, pressed

For the dressing:

  • 120 g mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon medium hot mustard
  • 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste.

Tip: If you want to cut the calories, you can cook the mayonnaise halfway through greek yogurt replace.

How do you make a tuna salad?

Preparation:

The cans tuna open and let the juice drain. You can also put the contents of the tuna cans in a colander and let them drain.

Clean the vegetables and the Spring onion divided across into fine rings.

The Peppers Cut the core into strips and then finely dice. You can also use just one type of pepper. It's entirely up to you. I used green and yellow peppers because it looks nicer.

The pole celery First halve, then cut lengthways into fine strips and then dice across. The celery makes the tuna salad extra crunchy and gives it a great spicy taste.

The Cucumber peel, then cut in half and scrape out the seeds with a small spoon. Then cut lengthways into strips and then dice across. If you don't have a cucumber in stock, you can also use 2 pickles. Due to the acidity it contains, the tuna salad has a nice fresh taste.

The clove of garlic peel and either press or finely chop.

The Eggs peel and finely dice.

Compose the salad:

All ingredients together with the mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon medium hot mustard Put in a large salad bowl.

With salt, black pepper, Lemon juice and sugar Spice up.

Mix everything well and, if necessary, season again with salt and black pepper.

What can tuna salad be used for?

Tuna salad is extremely versatile and can be used for many delicious dishes and snacks.

You can of course make the salad pure, along with fresh baguette or as tasty Grill side dish pass.

You can also do a great one with it Tuna Pasta Salad prepare.

Simply boil the pasta, quench and mix with the tuna salad.

Another great idea are Tuna sandwiches.

Many will already know the delicious sandwiches from the supermarkets.

With my delicious tuna salad you can make your own tuna sandwiches at home very quickly.

Take 2 slices of toast or bread, add a few lettuce leaves, then the tuna salad and, if you like, tomato slices or egg slices and the sandwich is ready.

Tuna Melt - It's like a grilled cheese sandwich, only with a filling of tuna salad instead of cheese.

To do this, take 2 letters of toast and coat each side with a little butter.

Then you heat a pan on medium heat (without oil) and put the first layer of toast with the buttered side in the pan.

Then put a thick layer of tuna salad on the slices of toast. Then place the second slice of toast, buttered side up, on top of the tuna salad.

As soon as the lower toast slice is golden brown, turn the whole thing once and fry the second side in the pan. As soon as this is fried golden yellow, it's yours Tuna Melt Sandwich finished. Good Appetite!

Tuna puff pastry bags (empanadas) - Super simple and delicious.

Take a roll of puff pastry and cut circles with a large glass.

Take a puff pastry circle at a time and put a tablespoon of tuna salad in the middle.

Seal the puff pastry in a semicircle and then everything comes into the preheated oven for about 20 minutes at 190 degrees top and bottom heat on the middle shelf.

What type of tuna is best to use in tuna salad?

It is best to take tuna in its own juice and infusion. Tuna that is pickled in oil naturally contains more fat and therefore more calories.

Is Tuna Healthy?

Tuna is rich in protein and, above all, very healthy due to the omega-3 fatty acids it contains. Omega-3 fatty acids protect against cardiovascular diseases and strengthen the immune system.

Tuna also contains a lot of iodine, zinc and vitamin D.

How is canned tuna made?

The tuna that is caught is first frozen after it has been caught. It is then pre-cooked for the first time in the factory.

After the fish has cooled, it is cut up and canned along with oil or broth.

The cans are then cooked a second time at very high temperatures.

This ensures that all germs are killed and the canned tuna remains fresh and long-lasting for many years.

Canned tuna is therefore completely ready to eat and does not have to be cooked again before use.

How long does tuna salad last?

Tuna salad will keep in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
Because of the mayonnaise it contains, you should always put the tuna salad back in the refrigerator as soon as possible.

Can you freeze tuna salad?

Even if there is most likely nothing left of this delicious salad, you can also freeze leftovers that you want to keep for a long time.
Keep in mind, however, that the vegetables won't be quite as crunchy after thawing.

The specifiedPreparation times are, by the way, an average. It is completely normal if it goes a little faster or takes a little longer, as the preparations are done faster with one than the other.

And that's how it's done

Preparation:

  • Peel the garlic clove and either press or finely chop.
  • Peel and finely dice the eggs.

Compose the salad:

  • Put all ingredients together with the mayonnaise and 1 teaspoon medium-hot mustard in a large salad bowl.
  • Season with salt, black pepper, lemon juice and sugar.
  • Mix everything well and, if necessary, season again with salt and black pepper.
