  • (2001) Integrated Drive Electronics - Integrated drive electronics. In contrast to the first PC hard disks, in which all control electronics were housed on the plug-in card of the hard disk controller, which limited the number of possible hard disk types, IDE hard disks only require a simple host adapter to connect a large number of different hard disks to a PC to be able to connect. The further development of EIDE (enhanced IDE) made it possible to connect other types of drives (e.g. CD-ROM or ZIP drives) in addition to hard drives and removed the 512 MB limit of the IDE system. See also PIO and DMA.
  • (2001) Integrated Development Environment - Integrated development environment. Tool for program development, which provides editor, compiler and possibly also linker and debugger under a uniform interface. The individual program parts are able to communicate with one another so that, for example, program errors occurring during execution can be marked in the source text and eliminated. Without an IDE, separate programs are required for these purposes, each of which must be started individually and cannot communicate with one another.
