What is the value of 537

R value remains high: Number of registered new corona infections now at 537

Berlin (dpa) - As a result of several outbreaks of the corona virus in individual regions of Germany, the number of reproductions (R value), which is important for the spread, has recently increased significantly.

After it had risen to 2.88 on Sunday, the value fell as of June 22nd. 0.00 o'clock, however, something again - to 2.76. This means that an infected person infects between two and three other people on average. The increase is related to local clusters, with the outbreak in North Rhine-Westphalia playing a major role, as the RKI announced in its management report.

"Since the number of cases in Germany is on the whole at a low level, these local outbreaks have a relatively strong influence on the value of the number of reproductions," it continues. In the four urban and rural districts of Gütersloh, Warendorf, Magdeburg and Berlin-Neukölln, a noticeable number of Sars-CoV-2 cases have been registered in the past seven days. The RKI attributes the cases in the North Rhine-Westphalia districts of Gütersloh and Warendorf to the outbreak in the Tönnies meat processing company.

In Magdeburg, the number of cases increased because people tested positive for Sars-CoV-2 in several schools. In the Berlin district of Neukölln, the increase in cases was related to an outbreak "in the vicinity of a religious community".

The R-value depicts the infection process approximately one and a half weeks beforehand. The value reacts sensitively to short-term changes in the number of cases, for example caused by individual outbreaks, as the RKI explains.

With a view to the nationwide corona infections, the local authorities reported 537 new infections to the RKI within one day. Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, 190,359 people in Germany have demonstrably been infected with Sars-CoV-2, as the RKI reported on Monday (data as of June 22nd, 0:00 am).

According to the RKI, 8,885 people infected with the virus have died in Germany so far - that is an increase of 3 compared to the previous day. According to RKI estimates, around 175,300 people survived the infection. That is 400 more than the day before.

Since mid-May, the RKI has also given a so-called seven-day R. It relates to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value sank to 1.83 (previous day: 2.03) as of June 22nd, 0.00 a.m. It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
