What is the best direction

The optimal sleeping direction: This is how you position your bed for a really good night's sleep.

How important is the direction of sleep for a good night? Today we will see what influence the direction of the compass has on your sleep. Let's find out whether your bed position is right for you and what other criteria are important so that you can sleep safely and wake up refreshed.

Sleep is a central issue - sleep is so important for our health, for success and for achieving our goals and dreams.

Very often my I ♥ MY HOME community is about the optimal bed position and how to find it. Because our everyday life demands energy, strength and concentration ... but for many people the nights are anything but calm and relaxing.

Find the optimal sleeping direction

If you can't sleep well, try different things and measures. Have the courage to clarify this topic well for you - you should be worth it to yourself and your well-being.

The cardinal points may be one of them. Sometimes it's the little things in the room, other times it's the room itself that isn't right. I have customers who sleep in the living room and have finally been healthy again, wake up refreshed and of course that also has positive effects on their business or profession.

It is not so easy to really find the right answer for yourself on this subject, because many opinions and teachings circulate. Some come from Feng Shui, others from sleep researchers, and still others are simply personal opinions and experiences. This quickly leads to uncertainty, because there is also the space where perhaps not all tips can be applied.

Calculate the direction of sleep according to Feng Shui

You can calculate a key figure for yourself like a horoscope - the so-called Kua number. This depends on your date of birth and your gender. The result gives you directions that are particularly good for you (for sleeping, sitting, working, etc.). you works like a personal compass. The orientation of your workplace, for example, should be geared towards activity and energy from the front.

At of Indian architecture - the Vastu - is about the correct positioning of buildings and their design according to the natural laws of the five elements. For me, according to this teaching, another result comes out of the cardinal points.

Remember that this is very old teachings and beliefs acts. It is not possible to translate this 1: 1 into our modern times.

This is what science says about the direction of sleep

But there are also scientific studies that place the magnetic north pole or the northern lights at the center of considerations for healthy sleep. There the thesis is put forward that sleeping in the north is not at all good for the organism, since you yourself become a magnetic needle.

A study by the Max Planck Institute says that we sleep better when we lie from west to east or east to west. We supposedly get into the REM phase faster. And you'll also find studies that convincingly show that it's healthier to be south-north.

Feel free to browse it, but trust your own feeling! Do what is good for you!

Take the cardinal direction into account when sleeping

First perceive whether you are a person who reacts to cardinal points. You will notice this, for example, if you want to turn around very often in bed (or if you turned around a lot as a baby).

For example, my mother is extremely responsive to the direction of sleep. When she enters a hotel room, she doesn't know which direction is, but within seconds she knows whether or not she can sleep in the bed. And then she aligns the bed accordingly (if possible).

Other people do not notice any effects on themselves, but need other factors to be able to sleep well. The shape of the room is often much more important, you

  • need a sense of security and protection.
  • should be really comfortable.
  • should have a solid back wall behind you.
  • shouldn't lie between the door and the window.
  • should have an overview of the room.

This is also my experience from countless consultations, that improvements and small measures in the room have a much greater effect on a good night's sleep.

The space and the design for a good night's sleep

Also consider other factors that can affect your sleep. For example, mirrors in the bedroom are a problem for many people. I have already spoken about the truth of mirrors in the bedroom in this RaumTalk.

The ideal sleeping direction always relates to the head and its orientation. He should have support on the head of the bed or a solid wall behind him.

I've had clients who stay in separate bedrooms because they have such different needs and their kua numbers don't match. But that doesn't have to be the case: If a partner responds more to the direction of sleep, align yourself with this person.

My biggest tip: Have the courage to change your sleeping position or the entire room. Do not orient yourself by what other people have drawn on the floor plan or how the previous tenant set up their bed.

Take the direction of the compass into your consideration, but be open to a very individual solution. When you are lying in your bed, take the time to feel how you are. You will notice whether you can come to rest in this place. Ultimately, you can tell by the quality of your nights and how refreshed you wake up in the morning.

I am very curious how you are doing with this topic. What experiences have you already had with the search for the ideal sleeping direction? Do you have any questions on this topic?
